Introduction
The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) is the state regulatory agency that handles CNA training in Kansas. They require each CNA student to complete a 90 hour CNA course. Of the 90 hours, 45 hours are online coursework and the other 45 hours are your skills and clinicals.
Attendance at all scheduled skills sessions and clinicals is mandatory and required by the state. Unfortunately, options to make up missed hours are not available. Missing any scheduled date will prevent you from completing the course, and you would need to re-enroll and pay the full course fee to begin with a new group. If you are unable to attend either skills class or clinical, please do not email your instructor. Instead, report your absence by using the absence button in Canvas or on the Allied website.
Skills classes are held at Allied Health Career Training, 1217 W. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67213. Following skills classes you will be attending clinicals where you will go to an actual facility with an instructor. The location for clinicals will be communicated to you during your skills classes.
There is no set dress code for skills class. We will want you to wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes you can move in and closed toe shoes (no slides or flip flops please). We will be doing a lot of bending, squatting, pulling, pushing, etc. so you will want clothes that will move with your body. If you have long hair, you might want a way to pull it back or up just to get it out of your way. You will be given a name tag the first day of class and we ask that you wear it every class and it is required at clinical.
Your coursework is designed to be completed at your own pace within the required timeline. The progress tracker is available for your personal use to help you monitor your progress.
Please note that if you log out or close your browser, your tracker progress may not be saved. If this happens, don’t worry—you can simply resume where you left off and continue working through the modules. Your actual coursework progress is not lost.
The progress tracker is not monitored by instructors or administration, so it is your responsibility to keep track of your progress and ensure all required coursework is completed. You are welcome to move in and out of the coursework as needed.
Modules 1-13 and part 1 test are due before the last day of skills class
The Clinical Expectations quiz is due before the first clinical day - you must get 100% on the clinical quiz (it can be taken more than once)
Both practice exams and the Final (with at least 75%) are due before the last day of clinical
At clinical - you must maintain HIPAA at all times. We will only discuss direct resident details with those that have a need to know. There are ways of discussing questions with the group without breaking HIPAA and we can discuss that with you. This means that you will not be discussing residents, staff, or other students with anyone. If you have any concerns about anything at clinical, you are to bring your concerns to your instructors only. Once you have discussed your concerns with your instructor, the subject will no longer be talked about. You will not share with other classmates or other staff. Violating this directive can lead to failure of your clinical day or removal from the course. If you have any downtime at clinical, please return to your instructors for further direction.
To qualify for the state exam, you must complete all coursework, skills hours, clinical hours, and pass your final exam by the end of the course. You may not arrive to the state exam late. If you arrive late, you will not be allowed to enter and will need to pay a reschedule fee.
