Clinical Attendance is MANDATORY to complete the CNA Course. If you know ahead of time that you will miss a clinical, contact your instructor as soon as possible to find out if there is a makeup date available. If no makeup is available, you will not be able to complete the course and you will need to repay for a new course schedule.

Attendance:

  • You are responsible for your own transportation to and from clinicals.

  • You will be given a 30-minute lunch break. You may bring your lunch or leave for food. Please tell your instructor when you are going to lunch and if you are leaving the building.

  • Bring your study guide and study material with you. This material will stay in the meeting room and may not go with you to the floor.

Etiquette

  • We are guests, so be respectful to all residents, instructors, students, and staff.

  • You are expected to jump in and work in order to learn. Keep up and don’t avoid an opportunity!

  • If you don’t feel comfortable doing something, ask to watch the first time.

  • Have a CNA with you when you transfer a resident.

  • Remember HIPPA! Do not discuss residents with others unless it is for providing care, continuity, or education for staff and students. Use initials or room numbers instead of names. Never discuss other students or staff members with anyone. If you have a concern you will bring those to your instructors only!

  • Keep your voice down in hallways and resident areas.

  • If you leave your unit, you need to tell the CNA that you are assigned to. If your CNA tells you to take a break, please ask when they want you to return.  You will work out lunch times with your CNA.

  • You must tell your instructor if you need to leave the building for any reason including lunch. Always check out with your instructor when you go to lunch whether you remain in the building or leave the building.

  • No smoking on facility grounds, even if there is a designated area for staff. Smoke only during your lunch break and completely off facility grounds. Do not come back stinking of smoke.

  • Avoid being judgmental toward staff. Some things are lessons in what NOT to do. Again, if you have a concern, you will bring that to your instructors and you will not discuss the matter with anyone including other students. Failure to comply with this directive will result in your dismissal from the program.

  • Silence your cell phone. If you must take a call or send a text, you must do so in the breakroom and away from patient care areas. Unnecessary or excessive use of your phone when not on break will result in failure of your entire clinical day.  If we see you on your phone on the floor, you will be dismissed from clinical.

  • Remember you are representing Allied!
